English Mince Pies

English Mince Pies are a classic British treat, particularly popular during the Christmas season. These small, sweet pies are filled with mincemeat – a mixture of dried fruits, distilled spirits, and spices, often with beef suet or vegetarian alternatives. Despite the name, they don't usually contain any meat. The pies are encased in a buttery, flaky pastry and are often topped with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Ingredients
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
2-4 tablespoons cold water
3/4 cup mincemeat
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add the cold water, stirring until the dough comes together.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut out circles with a cookie cutter and press them into the cups of a muffin tin.
Spoon mincemeat into each pastry cup.
Roll out any remaining dough and cut out small shapes to cover the tops of the pies. Place over the filling.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
Let cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
